Exhibition Digital Penpals Georgia – Switzerland

We invite you to be beguiled by an exhibition at Studio Kunsthalle Zürich! On the 2 March you can find out more about an exchange that has taken place over the last five months. If you cannot make it on the 2 March, the exhibition will be on view from 1-8 March.

Last autumn we started the schools exchange project Digital Penpals Georgia-Switzerland. Five classes were involved, two in Switzerland and three in Georgia. 68 schoolchildren from 9 to 17 took part, assisted by teachers, social workers and art mediators.

In 2022, Jacqueline Granwehr, mediator at Kunsthalle Zürich, took part in an exchange between art mediators in Switzerland and South Caucasus organised by the artasfoundation. Thanks to this, contacts were made which brought this project to life.

The basis for the exchange was a workshop in the exhibition As in a Melody or a Bird’s Nest by Georgian artist Elene Chantladze. Questions were put, discussed and answered about the exhibition, techniques and the artist. At the heart of the project are the artworks made during the workshop, which were later exchanged using the Discord app. Dialogue emerged from this interplay of action and reaction. Using the universal language of art we could learn from one another and communicate across borders.

To close the project we are meeting with all five classes, virtually or physically, at Studio Kunsthalle Zürich, in order to curate an exhibition together.
