Following a foreword by Japanese architect Mitsuru Senda, the book provides a comprehensive introduction to the history of the modern playground, situating it at the intersection of education, architecture, urbanism, design, and recreational policies. A special focus of this third edition is on the forgotten history of the playground in the former GDR, the culture of memory surrounding Shek Lei Playground in Hong Kong, and the state-building significance of playgrounds in Mexico.
