Mendes Bürgi’s new book ‘Bernhard Mendes Bürgi. Ausstellungen 1982–2016’ is published by Hatje Cantz in collaboration with the LUMA Foundation and Kunsthalle Zürich. In this conversation with Fanny Hauser for Zurich Art Weekend, Bernhard Mendes Bürgi – curator, art historian, and founding director of Kunsthalle Zürich (1990–2001) – will reflect on his exhibition history and provide insights into the founding of Kunsthalle Zürich.

The book’s focus is on a typographically generously designed list of all 110 exhibitions for which Bürgi was responsible, particularly as director of the Kunsthalle Zürich and the Kunstmuseum Basel, accompanied by many installation views. In the publication, a detailed discussion with Philipp Kaiser sheds light on Bürgi’s curatorial principles. The special significance of the 'ideal solo exhibition', which always emerges anew from a close collaboration with the respective artist, becomes apparent.
