ART CLUB2000
Selected Works From the Exhibition
“ART CLUB2000: Selected Works 1992–1999”
In cooperation with Kunsthalle Zürich & Artists Space, New York
ART CLUB2000 will present selections from the group’s original 1990’s multimedia installations as well as archival material and information related to the group’s practice and formation.
A comprehensive survey of ART CLUB2000 was produced at Artists Space, New York, in 2020 and at Kunsthalle Zürich in 2021. After returning from Zürich, the works have been temporarily stored in Pittsburgh and will now be displayed at a former flashlight factory to coincide with the opening of the 58th Carnegie International.
Initiated in 1992, the collective ART CLUB2000 articulated eminent crises in youth and artistic identities within the neoliberal post-recession economy that epitomized 1990’s New York. In collaboration with the mercurial art dealer Colin de Land, a group of seven Cooper Union students, two of whom are alumni of the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, conducted a series of weekly discussions that led to the group's 1993 debut exhibition, “Commingle”. The group went on to produce an exhibition for each of the next seven summers at de Land’s American Fine Arts, Co., as well as participating in solo and group exhibitions at art institutions across the US and abroad. Following a survey show at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City, Art Club2000 disbanded as planned in the year 2000.
