Albert Oehlen’s exhibition An Old Painting in Spirit at Kunsthalle Zürich last summer presented his important works from the 1980s, complemented with new, never-before shown paintings, and a selection of over fifty drawings. This spring, all of those works can be seen as miniature reproductions on a folded poster that forms the core of his new artist book «AÖ», published by Kunsthalle Zürich. Each poster sits between two original egg cartons (which served as rehearsal-room-style wall covering in the exhibition and actual acoustic trick for the mediation programs) and is packaged in an elaborate slipcase. Oehlen has conducted earlier experiments in wall- and exhibition design together with Heimo Zobernig. Zobernig’s newly installed schwarzescafé now opens its doors on Wednesday, May 11 from 6pm, at Löwenbräu’s LUMA Westbau spaces. schwarzescafé will also host the library of Kunsthalle Zürich for the upcoming months for public use. Just the right time and place to launch the artist book «AÖ», together with a series of Oehlen’s drawings that were specially produced for Kunsthalle Zürich.

schwarzescafé was initiated and curated by Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen, in an ongoing collaboration with LUMA Foundation and gta exhibitions, ETH Zurich.
