Contest

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic contest of storytelling skills and expertise in the arena of science communication. Competing PhD candidates will have just three minutes to bring their doctoral research across to a general audience.

Join the fun and cheer on participants as they tell their (research) story in just three minutes.

As a spectator, you will have an important role in judging the presentations, paying attention to details such as:

-Did the presentation provide an understanding of the background to the research question being addressed and its significance?
-Did the presenter capture and maintain their audience’s attention?
-Did the speaker avoid scientific jargon, explain terminology and provide adequate background information to illustrate points?

Contestants will have a chance to win jury and audience awards (up to 250CHF). The best presentation at the 3MT Competition at the University of Zurich will go on to compete in the international Universitas 21 3MT competition as a video submission, to be judged by an international panel consisting of industry and academic professionals.

Following the competition we will have an awards ceremony accompanied by an apéro with an open bar to celebrate the academic achievements and storytelling feats of doctoral researchers.

The competition will be moderated by Eric Alms, UZH Graduate Campus.
Registration is required to compete. For planning purposes we ask spectators to register in advance as well.
