Primarily known for his paradigmatic "shelves" displaying everyday objects, Haim Steinbach's forty year practice evolved from early minimalist painting with grids and monochromes to later large-scale installations that have seldom been seen in the United States. Growing out of an expansive traveling exhibition that features works drawn from throughout Steinbach's long career, as well as archival materials and major new site-specific installations, Haim Steinbach. Objects and Display is a significant new publication that urges readers to take a closer look at this seminal artist's works.
Hundreds of full-color illustrations document the retrospective exhibitions, with photographs, models and recreations from his past works, along with photography of the major new site-specific installations that appeared at each institution. New scholarly essays by writers Johanna Burton, Germano Celant, Timothy Morton, and Jenny Jaskey take this opportunity to explore the evolution of Steinbach's practice and his investigations into what constitutes an art object and how they are displayed.
